Hundertwasser's ecological practice focused on the idea of restoring nature's rights through tree planting and greening activities (foresting the roofs, tree tenants), the restoration of natural cycles (humus toilet), the protection of water and the fight for a waste-free society.
Hundertwasser designed Original Manifesto-Art-Prints for the rescue of the seas, for the protection of the rainforest and against nuclear energy, among other things, which were printed in large print runs and whose sales proceeds were donated to environmental initiatives and environmental organisations. The design of these environmental posters was part of his strategy, which manifested itself in a variety of activities, lectures and actions aimed at preserving and protecting nature and activating people's awareness of environmental protection.
